Sr.Sophia (Achamma) was born at Chirakkadav, Kanjirappally diocese, in the Ottaplackal family as the sixth of ten children. Her parents were late Mr.Joseph and late Mrs.Thresia. She was born on 10 October, 1926. She joined SD and made her First Profession on 9 June, 1946 and Perpetual Profession on 25 April, 1954. Sr.Christopher SD, Sr.Chrisilda SD, Sr.Telma SD and late Sr.Amala SD are her nieces. She was the office clerk at Kuzhuppilly High School until her retirement. She was the local superior in different places. She had a pleasant nature and was a devoted soul, with a spirit of asceticism, renunciation and mortified life. Sr.Sophia served at Chunangamvely, Perumanur, Coonoor, Kongorpalayam, Mercy Home, Pala and Kanjirappally. She included all in the circle of her love and had great concern for the poor. She was simple and humble, radiating divine joy always which was an outflow of her deep relationship with her Beloved Spouse. She was exemplary in the matter of obedience to the rules and to superiors and had great respect for everyone. She had the privilege to see St.Alphonsa personally. She was at Santhwana during her last years and took her sufferings along with the crucified Jesus and was contented. With a grateful heart she received the Sacrament of the Sick on the previous day of her demise, consciously. On 23 October, 2019 she bade farewell to this life quietly.
