Sr.Savio (Theyyamma) was born on 4 April, 1926, in the esteemed Neerakal family, as the second of nine children to her parent late Mr. Chackochan and late Mrs.Elsamma at Muttuchira. After SSLC she joined SD Chunangamvely and made her First Profession on 6 January, 1948 and Perpetual Profession on 25 April, 1954. Late Sr.Agnes Neerakal SD is her aunt. After her profession she was appointed as the Novice Mistress and it continued for eleven years. Then for two terms she became the General Councillor. Later she was the local superior at Kuzhippilly and Ernakulam convents. From 1967 – 1976, Sr.Savio was the Superior General of SD Congregation in three terms. She served as the secretary of CRI too.While she was the novice mistress, she had the special privilege to be with Msgr.George Valliarumpeth and got special training under his able guidance. She was simple, straight forward, and humble and led a life of asceticism and renunciation. She had great devotion to the Holy Trinity. She was a person of broad vision and great foresight. She loved SD and was concerned about its growth. She also served at the high ranges, in convents like Rajapuram, Pandippara and Chemmannu. Sr.Savio was the first Provincial Superior of St.Joseph’s Province, from 1985 – 1991. Sr.Savio worked hard in writing the history of SD, and the biographies of our Founder, our Director and Pioneers. The Constitutions of SD was put in a text form and got the approval from Rome, before getting the Pontifical status, with her constant hard work. She rendered her service at Andhra – Maharastra Region as a missionary. While she was there she had a cerebral stroke and was brought to the Provincial House, Chethipuzha for treatment. Slowly her health deteriorated. Then onwards, she was under medication. She suffered from dementia and inability to communicate. Her condition became critical and the Sacrament of the Sick was administered. On 22 May, 2016 at 12.50 pm, she bade goodbye to the world silently and surrendered her beautiful soul to the Lord of her life.
