Sr.Pelagia (Mariyakutty) was born as the third of twelve children, on 05 Sepember 1932, at Kadanad, Pala diocese. Her parents were late Mr.Mathai Azhakanparampil and late Mrs.Anna. She had a great desire to dedicate her life for the Lord and for the service of the poor and the needy. She joined SD Chunangumvely in 1953 and made her First Profession on 6 January, 1955 and Prepetual Profession on 25 May,1960. Sr.Thecla SD and Sr.Maria Goretty SH are her sisters She lived a zealous life and was an exemplary nun. “Love is repaid by love alone”- was her motto. She respected and loved religious rules and regulations and was obedient, had sincere love and concern for others. She was kind to the poor and needy. She was a person of prayer who saw goodness in others and also affirmed it. In general, she was a simple and humble person. Sr.Pelagia worked at Oonnukal, Palluruthy, Aluva, Thuravoor, Chemmanathukara, Cheranalloor, Peringazha, Nellimattam, Perumanur, Palode, Pala and Alappuzha. For the last
four years, she was totally bed-ridden at the Provincial House, Chethipuzha. During her last moments, her dear ones and our sisters were with her praying the Divine Office. Slowly her condition became serious and on 19, October 2010, at 9.00 pm, she passed quietly to the heavenly abode for eternal reward.
