Sr.Francy SD, Rosamma Francis Thengumthottathil was born on July 27, 1944 at Puliannoor, Pala. At home they used to call her Thankamma. Her parents were Mr.Francis and Mrs. Mary Francis. She was the second out of four children for her parents. After high school education at Mutholy she went for Hindi Viduan. Then she responded to her inner voice to become a Nun and joined SD convent, Chunangamvely in 1967. Her first profession was on January 6th 1970 and she made her perpetual commitment in 1976.During the first profession and vestition she received the name Sr.Francy SD. Her Motto was ‘Forgiving Love and Service’ Sr. Francy studied Nursing at Gen. Hospital, Ernakulam. Then she served in places like – Samaritan Hospital Pazhanganad, Malayattoor, Govt.Hospital Ernakulam, Medical College Hospitals Kottayam and Thiruvananthapuram. For one year she served in the slums of Jehangirpuri, Delhi. Always her concern was for the poor and needy – the downtrodden. Next she served at Mudiyoorkara, Pala and Mevida. She was the first superior at SD Convent Kottangal !. She had a quiet nature and smiling face. After retirement, Sr.Francy worked at Vyasarpady, Elikulam and Mercy Home Chethipuzha. She had great devotion to Blessed Mother. While serving at Pala Old age home, she fell sick and was admitted at Medical Centre Pala in 2022 Nov 29; from there she was taken to St.Thomas Hospital Chethipuzha. Then on Jan 6, she was taken to Rajagiri Hospital for expert opinion and treatment. There she was diagnosed as having “Acute Myeloid Leukemia’. For Chemotherapy she then was shifted to Caritas Hospital, Kottayam. Gradually her health started deteriorating ….she became semiconscious. Sr.Francy was given sacrament of the sick. On feb.11.2023 she breathed her last amidst prayers and chanting and in the presence of her near and dear ones she left for her eternal reward. . The body was kept in the mortuary and on the next day the funeral took place. Archbishop Mar. Joseph Perumthottam was the main celebrant and Fr. Sebastian Punnasserry gave the last words. May her soul rest in peace
