Sr.Ann Neerackal

Sr.Ann Neerakal (Annamma) was the seventh of sixteenth children of late Mr.Korah and late Mrs.Thresiamma. She was born in the esteemed Neerakal family, in Muttuchira, Palai diocese, on 2 September, 1941. After taking B.Ed degree she taught at St.Thomas High School, Perumanur. It was during this time she had the inspiration to join the SD Congregation. Her First Profession was on 6 January, 1968 and Perpetual Profession on 6 January,1974. Late Sr.Agnes Neerakal SD, is her aunt. Our Sr.Michael and Sr.Rose Korah are her sisters and Fr.Cyriac Neerakal OCD is her brother.Sr.Anitha Jose SD is her niece. Sr.Ann had a child-like simplicity in life and was a jovial person. While she was the Head Mistress of St.Thomas High School, Perumanur, she took voluntary retirement. She served as Novice Mistress, Provincial Councillor, and member of the Central Renewal Team. She compiled the 40 days retreat notes by Rev Fr.Rex SJ, into ‘Mahathwadarsanam’. Sr.Ann had great devotion to the Holy Trinity and experienced in her inmost heart the indwelling presence of Triune God. ‘O! Holy Trinity, the joy of my heart I trust in you.” was her favourite ejaculation. She was a good singer and composed many devotional songs. She was in the second batch of SD prayer wing and enjoyed the contemplative prayer life. While she was in prayer at Thottumugham, on 30 December, 2014, she was admitted in Samaritan Hospital,Pazhanganad due to severe knee trouble. The following year, on 2 January, her health condition suddenly became very serious and was shifted to ICU. Her kidneys became dysfunctional and developed septicaemia. Her own brother priest, Fr.Cyriac gave her the Sacrament of the Sick.
