Sr.Amala Ottaplackal

Sr.Amala (Marykutty) was the third among twelve children of the Ottaplackal family. Her parents were late Mr.Joseph and late Mrs. Rosamma. She was born on 8 December, 1935 at Chirakkadavu, diocese of Kanjirappally. She took degree and joined SD convent Chunangamvely at the age of twenty. She made her First Profession on 4 August, 1958 and Perpetual Profession on 28 May, 1963. Sr.Telma SD is her sister and late Sr.Sophia SD is her aunt. Soon after her profession, she was sent to the United States for medical studies. Sr.Amala was a person of prayer and had a very loving nature. She wanted to serve the suffering humanity sharing them the compassionate love of Jesus her beloved Spouse. ‘Prayer and loving service’ was her motto of life. Sr.Amala worked at our St.George Hospital, Chemmanathukara for a long time and also she rendered her service in Nirmalgiri and Wirur hospitals. People were very fond of her. She was a simple person capable of adjusting to any situation in life, happily. She had great family spirit too! Also she had a longing to become a saint and used to share the same with others. Later, when she was diagnosed of cancer, she took it with courage and trust in the Almighty. She lived eight years with cancer and when her condition became serious, she was brought to Samaritan Hospital Pazhangand. She took everything as the will of God and endured the suffering without complaining, in the spirit of prayer. She received the Sacrament of the Sick and departed from this world on 11 August, 2000, at 3.20pm.
