Sagayamatha Hospital was established in 1973, started as a small dispensary and has been up graded to the present 40 bedded Hospital with General Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics and Operation Theatre since 1989.
Sagayamatha Hospital is situated in COONOOR. The area is located on a hilly terrain that is surrounded by hills, valleys, and plantations. This hospital is dependent on over 10,000 people. Tribals, landless laborers, marginal farmers, and other weak and vulnerable sections are the most common beneficiaries of the hospital. We provide extension services in hilly underdeveloped villages, which include free mobile clinics every week, regular visits and free health services. Our hospital’s services are purely charitable, so we make substantial concessions and even provide free treatment to very poor patients who cannot afford to pay. The general wards are free of bed charges so that the needy can receive better care at a lower cost.
In the year 2021, we will be fully engaged in the treatment of the Covid Pandemic. We vaccinated the rural population of Coonoor with the help of PHC Coonoor and the Government Hospital. This pandemic year, we vaccinated 800 people. In May 2021, we began admitting Covid patients, setting up 16 isolation beds and treating 220 patients. By God’s mercy, everyone has recovered and has been discharged from the hospital. We must thank our doctors, nurses, and social workers for their dedicated service to our ailing people.
The Government of Tamil Nadu has recognised our enthusiasm and sincerity in the field of services. Mrs. Innocent Divya IAS, district Collector, presented us with the best service award certificate to the hospital, which was accepted by Sr. Evuline Treasa S.D. and Sr. Teresin S.D.
We provided post-Covid counselling to people who were depressed as a result of Covid. We are transferring positive cases to government hospitals with the assistance of government officials. Rev. Fathers, Sisters, and Brothers who were admitted to our hospital owing to Covid have all recovered by God’s grace.
Poor people were given extra attention and discounts on consultations and room rent. Four expectant women received hospital and delivery care from us. The delivery cases were managed by Dr. Kausalya M.D. D.G.O.
