Varuthattu St. Xavier’s Mission was the sub station of the Munchirai St. George Mission, run by Rev. Fr. John Thekkel, about 8 kms. away from Munchirai. From 4 June 1981 Sr. Glorista and Sr. Shobha Cheripurath from Munchirai were daily coming to Varuthattu for catechetical and pastoral services and for supervising the working of the Candle making unit. In order to put an end to this difficult daily travelling and to make the presence of Sisters permanent at the Center for the betterment of the Parish, on 9 June 1982 we opened a Convent in the small house that was existing in the church compound and continued the parish ministry. Later we bought a plot of land near the Church and built a convent, a dispensary and a crèche for the babies of working women. Years after, in the changed and developed situation of the locality with more clinical facilities and Balwadis and Anganvadis all around we closed down our Dispensary, creche and Nursery school one by one.
