In response to the invitation of Mar Antony Padiyara the Archbishop of Changanassery we opened a convent at Munchirai in Kamyakumari District in Tamil Nadu on 13 December 1980, in the land donated by the Archbishop. Sr. Sienna Thekkekara and Sr. Glorista Cheruparambil began to stay there and continued the construction of a Home for the Aged destitute with the help of Rev. Fr, John Thekkel the Parish Priest. The Blessing and Inauguration of the Home for the Aged called ‘Anpakam was held on13 December 1980. The members of the first Community were Srs. SiennaThekkekara(Superior), Glorista Cheruparambil, Prasoonam Kalamparambil, Michael Neerackal and Asunta Parapuram.
In those days the Syro Malabar Mission centers in the Kanyakumari District were together known as the Southern Mission of the Changanassery Archdiocese. Years later it was formed as a separate Diocese called Thuckalay. When Thuckalay Diocese was established its first Bishop Mar George Alencherry was staying in this house for one year. A Dispensary and tailoring class were also functioning here which proved to be a great blessing to the poor people of the locality in those days. Now it is extinct. In the early years we were also running a Day Care Centre for the poor aged people in the locality who did not want to stay in the Home, but at the same time needed our care and support. Until 1916 there were both male and female inmates at Anpakam, but afterwards because of new Regulations of the Govt. we had to stop the male section, and now only women destitute are admitted. Charitable contributions of generous people is the source for the financial management of the Institution.
Sisters are actively involved in all the pastoral activities of the Parish.
