SD Elikulam (2001)

On 19 September 2001, in the interest of Mar Mathew Vattakuzhy and Mar Mathew Arackal, the Bishops of Kanjirapilly Diocese, SD took charge of the Serenity Home, a terminal care centre for the poor, located at Elikulam, between Pala and Ponkunnam, owned by the Diocese and managed by the Sisters of Charity of St. John of God. The Institution was handed over to SD for management since the SCJG Sisters were terminating their service. There were only 8 inmates at the time when we took charge, but now  the number exceeds to 70. Both the ladies and gents are admitted. A retired Priest is appointed by the Bishop as resident chaplain of the Institution. Every year one batch of  Brothers from Vadavathoor Major Seminary stay here for ten days to impart voluntary service and thereby  to acquire training. Members of Vincent de Paul Society, Parish Youth Association (CYMA) etc. also make visits and help the patients. An annual  gathering of our benefactors is held every year  in connection with Onam celebrations. Generous help of numerous benefactors is the main source of income for the financial management of this Home.

In addition. to their service in Serenity Home Sisters are actively  engaged in all the pastoral activities of the Parish. Srs. Leo (Superior), Pratibha, Sherin and Meera Jose were the pioneers in the Community
