Sd Thiruvananthapuram was the first SD Convent started in the Archdiocese of Changanassery. It was also in Thiruvananthapuram the capital city of Kerala that SD Sisters got access in a Medical College for the first time.
Sr. Jane Thattezhath and Sr. Sales Vadakkamchery who got transferred to TVm Medical College hospital from Ernakulam General Hospital had to stay at the Nurses’ Quarters of the hospital. But It was strongly felt that a Convent house is necessary for the prayer life and community life of the Sisters. So with the permission of Mar Mathew Kavukatt, the then Archbishop of Changanassery we took a house on rent opposite to the Med. College Men’s hostel, and the Sisters began to reside there on 15 April 1969. Later the Servant of God Mar Mathew Kavukat blessed the house as a Convent.. Still later we bought that house. We were fortunate to have a house of our own in the capital city which was blessed by the Servant of God. We belonged to the Parish of Lourde Church. We also opened a Nursery class attached to the Convent for the poor children of the area. Srs. Jane (Superior), Leoni, Bernard and Elsius were the pioneers. Besides the Sisters employed in the hospital, this house also accommodates our student Sisters who do various University Courses in the capital city. The presence and service of our Sisters in the Med. College hospital is a great blessing for the poor patients to approach the doctors and get proper treatment.
In 1997 we opened a Stay home attached to the Convent with 15 beds for lodging the poor patients and their bye standers who come from far off places for treatment at RCC and Sree Chithira hospital. Sisters also find time to involve in the Parish activities.
