Sr.Teresa (Chachikutty) was born on 7 August, 1914, as the youngest of three girls of the esteemed Mappilassery family at Champakulam. Her parents were late Mr.Joseph and late Mrs.Mariam. While teaching at St. Theresa’s school Vazhappilly, urged by her desire to be one with Jesus, she joined SD at the age of 24, and made her First Profession on 24 April, 1941and Perpetual Profession on 6 June, 1946. Sr.Purissima SD is her niece. Late Sr.Celine Elias CMC is her sister. After the profession she was sent for teaching at St.Thomas School, Perumanur. She served in places like, Muvattupuzha, Chunangamvely, Thuravoor, Malayattoor, Vallam, Karukutty, Meloor, Nazareth, Vazhakulam, Thottumugham, Palluruthy, Oonnukal and Nellimattom. Sr.Teresa was a simple, sincere, quiet, joyful and contented sister. She was an upright person who stood for truth and had a prophetic vision. While she was in Mercy Home, Chethipuzha, she spent her time teaching the children, weak in studies, in Mercy Home and from the neighbouring families. She updated her knowledge in various ways especially by reading the signs of the times! While she was in Kodinattukunnu Mercy Home, she felt some discomfort, and she was admitted at St.Thomas Hospital, Chethipuzha on April, 1990. She had high fever and was later diagnosed with brain disorder. She became unconscious and was given the Sacrament of the Sick and shifted to the Provincial House, Chethipuzha. On 3 May, 1990 at the age of seventy six, in her Golden Jubilee year, she entrusted her soul in the hands of the Divine Spouse. The following day, she was buried at Podippara, parish cemetery.
